New IUS Student

I was extremely nervous entering into my freshman year of english. I heard from many of my older friends that college required a lot of writing, which technically wasn't one of my strengths. However, as the year went on, I really began to catch on to some of the great techniques and became really good at planning my writing out before I put it on paper. It's a good idea to try to stay away from procrastination. Waiting until the last second to start on a paper is one of the worst things you can do. Stay ahead of schedule and have time to proofread and make changes. It will definitely help you out in the long run when you receive your grade. With the extra time to make changes, you can really improve the overall status of your work.

Profile Paper

I had to really think about my topic a lot to find an arument that I could use in my proposal, however I finally came to a solution. In my research paper, I gave a lot of good information about the life of a landscape architect. In my proposal, I plan to argue that landscape architects don't receive enough attention and respect for their job. Most people don't know how important the job of landscape architects is. In the years 2012 through 2020, landscape architects are going to be one of the top 5 jobs in demand. This is due to the industrialization taking place everywhere across the United States. These landscape architects are needed to do the clean up work and make everyhting blend in and look appealing to the citizens. I have a lot of good information on the importance and everyday work of landscape architects within my research paper that will come in handy. I also plan on talking through some of the qualifications and requirements needed for the career of landscape architecture.

Improvement in my Writing

I really wasn't sure what to expect my first semester of English here at IUS. I was a little nervous because I heard from older friends that you were assigned to write a lot of essays and reports in college. I always thought it was going to be really hard and I would be very dissappointed with the result of my papers. However, I found that we are not assigned all these papers to stress us out or frustrate us, but instead they are assigned to help us improve our writing skills. After the first paper I wrote, I wasn't really enthused with the grade I received. Although I didn't get the desired grade I wanted, I did receive a lot of good tips and criticism to make my writing skills more effective. With each paper we were assigned throughout the semester, I continued to listen to the tips and helpful hints given to me by my teacher. I continued to improve my writing skills and it resulted in a better grade on my papers. Not only was I receiving better grades, but I also learned how to use criticism and comments from the teacher to improve my work in writing. I really improved my writing skills this semester in English 131, and hope to continue to use criticism constructively to improve my writings in years to come.

Gambling Causes Major Problems

Gambling for most people is a form of entertainment and recreation. It's just a way to have fun and maybe get lucky and win every now and then. However, for some people, gambling can become an addiction, like alcohol and other drugs. Just like alcoholics and excessive drug users,addicted gamblers feel dependent and rely on their gambling. Some gamblers become addicted to the rush of gambling, called action gamblers. Other addicted gamblers gamble to escape emotional pain, called escape gamblers. They gamble because they are lonely and have a lot of worries that gambling can take them mind off of. They use gambling to kind of numb them of all the problems occuring in the life. However, both of these addictions cause many problems such as huge losses of monetary value, lost focus of family and friends, and emotional pain and lonliness. Gambling can be just fun for most people, however, it can cause a lot of pain for those who become addicted. Gambling has too many downfalls to be legal. We need to make changes in order to save some of these innocent addicted gamblers.

Best Paying Jobs in America

I have decided to do my research paper on the best paying jobs in America. I chose this topic because nodody really knows what the best jobs are out in the working field. I figured it would be a good topic to choose to inform my audience what fields would be good to get into. There are a lot of high paying jobs available that no one even knows about. The purpose of my paper will be to find the top 5 paying jobs and to inform my audience what that job is and what is included in the job. I am going to do a survey around campus asking what jobs they believe are the best paying. I will then calculate the results and see what the students here at IUS belive are the best paying jobs. I hope that after you have read my research paper, you will have a better idea of what good paying jobs are out there and available for anyone who seeks a good job. I also hope to inform those who are seeking one of these high paying jobs, what level of education and degrees they must have to be eligible for the job.

Availability of Sources

There is most definitely a more wide variety of sources available to anyone all over. Whether it being internet cites, newspapers, magazines, or television. I believe that having many different sources to retrieve information from is a major advantage. Don't get me wrong, I know there's a lot of false information out there on these sources, but if you really look into them you can find a lot of reliable sources with a lot of good information. Plus, if you are researching a topic with many views on the subject, than it's kind of nice to get views from all perspectives. All sources have their own view on a subject matter. Depending on how you are looking to wrtite your paper and what perspective your looking to write about, you might find different sources with the same beliefs as you, where as other sources may look at it in a different perspective. I believe that having many available sources is key to writing the paper you want to write. Having opinions and views from multiple sources can help you in finding the path you are wanting to take in your writings. Just be sure when you choose a source, research it a little and make sure you have chosen a reliable source with good information. Reviewing multiple sources will really open up your writing allowing you to go in whatever direction you're looking to go.

Writing

When I was younger, I couldn't stand writing. I could never decide on what to write about, or how long it should be. Basically, I could never plan my writing out. However, as of lately, I have been more effective in my writings. I write about things I like to talk about, or something I can relate with. Before every paper I write, I always do an outline or some kind of web to organize my thoughts. Then my papers flow a lot more smooth and it becomes much easier to write. I use to just think writing was only necessary in school, however, I've noticed that writing is an excellent technique to use if you are stressed out, or just have something on your mind. Getting ideas or problems out of your head and on to paper take so much pressure off your mind. I've found other ways in which writing can be helpful in everyday life. Although writing a paper or essay may seem pretty dull, writing is very effective in life in many ways. I really feel like I've got a better handle on writing and I want to continue to find ways in which I can find it useful in my everyday life.
